Nitrile Rubber Foam

Nitrile rubber foam, also known as vinyl nitrile or PVC NBR foam, is a closed-cell sponge foam that is elastic and returns to its original shape when stretched. An extremely useful and highly versatile foam material, nitrile rubber foam is ideal for industrial applications. As a soft but durable material, it offers superior resistance to chemicals, solvents, and water. Because nitrile rubber foam is resistant to abrasion, does not tear or puncture easily, and can withstand a great deal of friction, it is perfect for long-lasting foam tapes, strips, gaskets, and seals.

This compressible and flexible foam material is also used for heat insulation, sound proofing, vibration dampening, cushioning, and filtering applications. Nitrile rubber is highly valued in the medical, health care, defense, aerospace, infrastructure, mobile equipment, and defense industries.

Types of Nitrile Rubber Foam

Atlas Foam Products offers MLC Black® (PVC/NBR) nitrile rubber foam, which is a closed-cell blended sponge consisting of polyvinyl chlorine and nitrile-butadiene rubber.

  • Comes in rolls 56” wide and can be cut to varying lengths up to 75 feet long
  • Comes in 1.5” thickness and can be cut down to .25” thickness
  • Meets ASTM D 1056-07 2A1/2C1 grade product requirements
  • Meets ASTM D 6576-07 Type II, Grades A/B, Condition Soft Material requirements

  • Meets FMVSS-302 specifications for military and automotive applications

CR / EPDM / SBR Rubber Foam

Like nitrile rubber foam, CR/EPDM/SBR rubber foam is highly flexible and returns to shape and form easily. Its excellent elastomeric properties make it ideal for applications that require both strength and flexibility. This blended rubber foam material displays exceptional weather and thermal resistance and ideal material to prevent water or air from passing for optimal sealing performance.

A blend of CR (chloroprene/neoprene), EPDM (ethylene propylene), and SBR (styrene-butadiene) rubbers, this versatile material has high compression capabilities and can seal and conform to most uniform and irregular surfaces. This foam material is a popular choice for sealing and insulation applications; and it is more suitable for higher temperature applications than nitrile rubber foam.

CR/EPDM/SBR blended rubber foam is also used for shock absorbing, vibration and sound dampening, filtering, structural support, and electrical applications. It is used to make rubber washers, gaskets, seals, bushings, tubing, and noise isolators in demanding industries such as industrial, oil and gas, energy, and food and beverages.
